Roel Kerckhoffs

Roel Kerckhoffs is managing partner of Hertoghs Advocaten, a Dutch boutique law firm specialised in white-collar crime, tax fraud and tax litigation. Roel is recommended by Legal500 in the specialisation ‘Fraud and white-collar crime’.

Roel’s career started as a tax consultant working for KPMG Meijburg & Co. After four years he decided to switch from consultancy to litigation. As an associate of Houthoff Buruma he became an attorney specialised in tax litigation. In 1994 he joined Hertoghs in which firm he extended his scope to white-collar crime and tax crime. In 2001 he became a partner in Hertoghs.

During his career as a white-collar crime attorney Roel Kerckhoffs has advised a lot of big (national and international) companies and high-net-worth individuals. He has also outstanding experience in procedures before the Dutch Supreme Court.

In the Netherlands, confidentiality is the most important duty of an attorney, which makes that he cannot disclose more details about the cases he dealt with. If possible, he prefers to act behind the scenes to get a case closed or solved as soon as possible.

Nevertheless, Roel dealt with quite some cases which appeared in the media and gave him also good skills and experience when dealing with the press and preparing the client in that area.

Roel is the leader of a team of experienced lawyers. He is a team player who knows that the four eyes principle is the minimum condition for excellent quality and success. In case Hertoghs needs more specific skills to achieve the best result, he has a big network of other professionals he can engage to enforce the legal team.

His ‘why’ is the human factor. Not only legal know how is necessary for good legal advice. Knowing your client and your opponent and building a strategy how to deal with these ‘human factors’ are even more important for an excellent result.
